Coming Up In…December

Just in case the daily bludgeonings of the NFL and NHL haven’t satisfied your appetite for full-body contact, we’ve got one more hard-hitting acronym: the NLL. Starting this month, members of the National Lacrosse League will take to the field in 13 cities across North America for the new pro lacrosse season. The first game of the season on Dec. 27 pits the Rochester Knighthawks against the Chicago Shamrox. The season lasts 17 weeks until mid-April and games take place on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. And this year, Beantown earns a spot on that list; the Boston Blazers dig their cleats into the turf at TD Banknorth Garden with new owner, Google executive Tim Armstrong, now backing the team.

While many of the teams make their home in the Northeast—Philadelphia; Boston; Buffalo, New York—you can also find open bleachers in locales like Portland, Oregon; San Jose, California; and Denver. And despite the fact that pro lacrosse shares the same venues as other major franchises, season tickets start at about $80, so your wallet won’t take a monster hit. Too bad we can’t say the same for the players.
